This is Rocky, our little barn cat. We picked up Rocky on Easter Sunday, driving way up into the local hills to meet a rancher with one kitten left from a litter. Rocky was a scrawny, scared little kitty, who cried all the way home. He settled into our home, and Kat's heart, in no time. Not scrawny anymore, Rocky is a big cat with little cloven hoofs for paws--when he comes to say goodnight he stands squarely on your chest and digs his little "hoofs" in. He gets his greatest pleasure from any box or piece of paper he can shred into a thousand pieces. He is a wacker, and very good at it!
Here's Chloe! Chloe is our special little shelter cat. We got Chloe from the local non-kill shelter. She was born there, and while the shelter folks did a good job at caring for and handling all the animals there, Chloe has some socialization problems. She bonded almost immediately with Rocky, and can be found most often curled up next to him. We joke alot about how we should have named her "Heidi", for "hide" is what she does if you make a sudden movement or loud noise. We've had Chloe for a year now, and with love and affection she has really started to come out of her shell in the last several months. She's always been sweet, would come and sit in your lap if you were quiet and waited, but lately she bolts less often, and will even allow you to pick her up and hold her close for a minute.
It's been quite a while since we've updated Chloe's story. Chloe has developed, over the years, into a beautiful, sweet, and confident cat. She still will bolt if startled, but she is much more social than when we first got her. She even will come up to strangers who are visiting us to investigate, and receive a little Chloe-attention! Sadly, this year, as Chloe celebrated her 10th birthday, our vet noticed some weight loss during her annual physical. Well, to make a long story short, Chloe had cancer in her abdomen that was widely spread. We lost Chloe within several months of this sad news. Chloe was a great cat, she thrived here, and she enriched our lives. Good night, my sweet murpey girl, we'll always love you...
This lump is Kat, named after Kat in the Red Dwarf series. He is a small town boy, fathered by the cat at the local tavern. Kat was the only kitty for a few years, but is now the undisputed king of the roost, dispensing love and justice more or less equally. He is most often found in the position you see him in here, only the place changes.
